WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT CLOCK BAR

Patrick Heig

Citysearch

Clock Bar at The Westin St. Francis plays second fiddle to Michael Mina restaurant--and that's precisely how its creator (Michael Mina) planned it. Named for the historic hotel lobby's Great Magenta Grandfather Clock, this newcomer has found its niche as a less formal option for grabbing an impromptu cocktail and a bite. Interiors conjure a mod-ish lounge and an first-class airport bar: Expect richly hued translucent columns, low-slung chairs and mixology-grade cocktails like the Chartreuse Swizzle and the Breakfast Fizz (made with egg whites and orange marmalade), plus Mina-tizers like truffled popcorn and lobster corn dogs. The space retains a unique sense of cool enjoyed by mostly mature, well-heeled hotel guests and downtown types.

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Heather

Mission Bar - 9 pm Tonight 5/6

Yes, for those of us who are counting, we are having SFWednesdays two weeks in a row.  Don't worry, this is a good thing.  We're going to mix it up a bit and go to a dive bar in the Mission.

In Short
This simple watering hole sparkles like it's brand-new. The high-ceilinged, rectangular room features a long, wooden bar with bar stools, a pool table and big, black vinyl booths. Long-haired men and women with tattoos are in abundance, probably on their off-nights from Zeitgeist, Lucky 13 and band practice. There's also a healthy contingent of Latin folks in their 40s, who've probably lived in the neighborhood their whole lives.

Hotel Biron - 8 pm April 29

Come join this Wednesday at 8 pm.  SFWednesdays returns to the Hayes Valley neighbourhood (yes, Heather, you owe me :-) ) to one of my favorite wine bars.  OK, is there a wine bar I don't like?

Anyway, come celebrate my birthday too.  8 pm.  They have cheese and pates if anyone wants to eat with wine.  I believe they also serve beer and sake.

See you Wednesday!

This seductive Hayes Street hideaway attracts a sophisticated crowd with down tempo DJ beats and an alluring menu of sugar-rimmed cocktails. Cozy yet modern, the rectangular bar area beckons with lilac-hued walls, handblown glass light fixtures and original paintings from Bay Area artists. An intimate back room with a single table offers some privacy. Signature drinks highlight seasonal ingredients chosen to pair with a changing menu of pastries, truffles and other confections.

See you all at 9pm!

Tsunami Mission Bay - **8** pm

Hey gang,

Another season is upon us.  What a great way to celebrate than some sushi and cocktails.  This place has an extensive list of yummy cocktails and sake, and some pretty good fish.  It is also a block from Caltrain at 4th and King.

I'm having my HOA meeting this Wednesday -- which means I'll be cranky and hungry -- so we'll meet at 8 for drinks and snacks.  They have a communal table at the right.
